What is intestinal failure?

Intestine failure exists when there is insufficient functioning intestine to allow healthy life without artificial feeding. Our patients usually develop intestinal failure as a result of complications of abdominal surgery, leading to severe abdominal infection, an intestinal fistula,  or extensive disease or removal of the small intestine.
